UFC Fight Night Song vs Simon Results – Song Stops Simon late in the Fight

The UFC Fight Night Song vs Simon results are ready for review. The event went live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV on 4/29/2023. This Fight Night could be viewed live on ESPN+ at 6:00pm CDT with prelims kicking off at 3:30pm CDT.

Main Event

The main event on this one took top 10 bantamweights #8 Song Yadong against #10 Ricky Simon in a 5 round main event. The fighters were ready to get busy. The UFC announced that there would be no commercial breaks during the main event (let’s hope this continues).

Simon got into trouble after a Song hook dropped him in the second round, but he scrambled up and got a takedown of his own. However, was unable to maintain control and Song got back to work.

In round 3, a low blow from Song Yadong’s left hook paused the action briefly. The two separated and they went back at it. It was becoming clear that Song Yadong was the superior striker in the exchanges. Couple that with the fact that Song was able to defend the takedowns from Simon, and the fight was basically summed up.

In round 4, Song Yadong landed a left hook that sat Ricky Simon down. There were only a few seconds left in the round however and he managed to survive.

In the final round, Song Yadong connected with the same left hook and it found it’s mark. Ricky Simon dropped again, this time with more than enough time left on the clock for Song to work with. He jumped all over his downed opponent and poured on more punches that kept Ricky Simon from being able to recover. After a few unanswered shots Herb Dean stepped in to call this 5th round TKO for Song Yadong.

Co-main Event

UFC Fight Night 223 had a co-main event featuring rising star Caio Borralho against Russian fighter Michal Oleksiejczuk in a middleweight bout.

The first round had a bit of a back and forth with both fighters finding some success with their striking. With under a minute left Caio Borralho got the back of Michal Oleksiejczzuk and punished the body with knees until the round ended.

The second round began and the action looked like more of the same until Caio Borralho took Oleksiejczuk down with a double that the Russian fighter was unable to defend. Moments later, Borralho was changing positions at will. After securing full mount Oleksiejczuk was forced to give up his back. Consequently, Caio Borralho was able to throw in a body triangle and work the rear naked choke (which he secured) and got the tap out at 2:12 of the second round.
