UFC Fight Night: Almeida vs Lewis Results
UFC Fight Night Almeida vs Lewis results are here for review. The fights aired live from Ibirapuera Arena in Sao Paulo Brazil on Saturday, November 4th, 2023. All fights aired on ESPN+ with the prelims starting at 5:00PM CDT and the main card kicked off at 8:00PM CDT.
Main Event
The main event featured two top 10 heavyweights when heavily favored Jailton Almeida #9 faced off against heavy handed Derrick Lewis #10. Almeida has stopped his last five opponents in the UFC letting only one opponent see the second round. In contrast, Lewis has been stopped by three of his last four opponents but was able to take out Marcos Rogerio De Lima in the first round at his last bout.

In round one, Almeida moved in to control the center of the octagon. Mixing in some striking, Almeida shot to a single and rushed Lewis to the cage where he transitioned to a double and brought Lewis down. Lewis began to struggle back to his feet but Almeida was able to secure full mount in the scramble. Near the end of the round, Lewis was able to get to his feet but it didn’t look as if it would last long, as Almeida took him down again at the bell.

Next round, Almeida got the fight to the ground pretty quickly. Lewis fought off any submission attempts and basically got held for the remainder of the round. The referee began to demand some action from the fighters and Almeida started to pepper in some body shots until the buzzer.

The third round began with an intense leaping knee and punch combination from Derrick Lewis that had Almeida shooting for the double. It wasn’t until Lewis attempted to hip toss Almeida that a scramble was created landing Almeida in full mount once again. Moments later, Lewis began another scramble but Almeida’s bjj was something of another world as he not only kept the fight on the ground but ended again in full mount. Almeida found some success with some big shots landing punches on a flattened Lewis before the round ended.

In round four, the story continued with Almeida shooting for a double and Lewis looking to time a big uppercut but losing out to the takedown. Almeida held top position with some seriously outclassed ground technique, though to Lewis’ credit, no submission appeared to have him in any real danger.

Finally, the fifth round began with the men showing mutual respect. Lewis had Almeida backing up and again the double came from Almeida and Lewis fought him off and made him pay for the attempt with some sharp elbows. Lewis had him turned against the fence and Almeida dropped down into a deep double and took mount on Lewis. With under a minute left Lewis scrambled to his feet and Almeida shot back for the double and took him down once again. The final 30 seconds had Almeida climbing all over Lewis’ back and threw down Lewis again at the end of the final bell for the final stamp.

The judges scored the contest 50-44, 50-44, and 50-45 for the winner by unanimous decision Jailton Almeida. Later, he went on to call out Ciryl Gane for his next competitor.

Co-main Event
Gabriel ‘Marretinha’ Bonfim is a contender series fighter who has certainly been a rising star in the sport. He was set to face 3 fight win streak and moreover proven UFC veteran Nicolas ‘Danish Dynamite’ Dalby.

The fight started with a busy Bonfim. Pushing the pace and stunning his opponent with a mix-up of leg kicks and power punches. Dalby shot in for a takedown but instead held Bonfim against the cage. The two separated and Dalby began to push the pace keeping Bonfim on the back foot until Bonfim took Dalby to the mat with half of round one remaining. Bonfim fought to side control and threatened an arm submission which Dalby defended. With a minute left Bonfim transitioned to full mount with another scramble landing him in side control and a few heavy punches and elbows finished the round, likely in favor of Bonfim.

Round 2, Dalby came out busy throwing punches while stalking his opponent. Bonfim answered with a big takedown, but Dalby stood up only to be dragged down again. Bonfim was working a choke but Dalby resisted. Finally Dalby got back to his feet with just under three minutes remaining. The two had some big exchanges on their feet but it became apparent that Dalby was getting the better of them.

Big elbows, big knees, and an unrelenting grind sent Bonfim to the canvas where Dalby jumped on and finished the rising star. Winner by 2nd round TKO Nicolas Dalby.

They have also included Sergei Pavlovich #2 against Tom Aspinall #4 for the interim title of the heavyweight division, which seemed sudden but the severity of Jones injury is unknown.
