UFC 284 results for Makhachev vs Volkanovski are in after the event concluded in Perth, Australia at the RAC Arena on Saturday, February 11, 2023. The event was aired through ESPN+ pay-per-view.

UFC 284 Main Event

Islam Makhachev proved odds makers correct after he took the hopes of a would be two division champion (Alexander Volkanovski) away. The fight was amazing to say the least. Islam Makhachev surprised many with his ability to stand with Volkanovski, and certainly found some success with counter strikes.

Questions were answered when Makhachev took down Volkanovski, instead to be nullified by Volkanovski’s defense and typically incapable of holding the smaller fighter down, besides the last minute of the second round.

The fight continued to go back and forth with many rounds hard to score. In the final seconds of the last round, Volkanovski found himself on top of Islam Makhachev landing shots from the dominate position. It was clear this fight was going to be close.

Both fighters had their moments but it seemed to be Makhachev’s ability to succeed in getting the takedowns that gave him the upper hand, and ultimately the decision victory.

Undoubtedly this elevated his pound for pound status while successfully defending his belt, in a grueling battle, for the first time.

UFC 284 co-Main Event

In the co-main event Yair Rodriguez met against Josh Emmett, for Volkanovski’s vacated title, Yair Rodriguez had strikes coming in from every angle. Emmett experienced a little success with a heavy shot that left Rodriguez stunned in the first round. However, Emmett found himself threatened by a triangle which soon proved to be his demise. Finally, it was Yair Rodriguez who would claim the interim title.

Jens ‘Lil Evil’ Pulver was inducted into the UFC hall of fame this Saturday February 11, 2023. Jens was the first UFC 155lb champion. He is noted for his battles with BJ Penn and being the youngest lightweight champion.

Besides the title fights, the remaining main card fights were all entertaining. Jack Dell Maddalena and Justin Tafa both equally looked highly impressive in their 1st round finishes. Crute and Menifield fought a slugfest style war which evidently ended in a drawl after a Menifield point deduction. All the remaining results are posted below.
