UFC 279 Weigh Ins Chimaev vs Diaz

The UFC 279 Weigh ins Chimaev vs Diaz fighters have hit the scales and the work has been put in. Of the 26 combatants 23 hit the mark and 3 missed, it just happened to be the main draw of the card, Khamzat Chimaev, who missed by eight pounds. Chris Barnett and Hakeem Dawodu also missed their marks and will likely forfeit a percentage of their fight money. The fight goes live from Vegas on Saturday, September 10, 2022 with early prelims kicking off at 5:00PM CDT via the UFC Fight Pass. With the main card being in jeopardy of getting cancelled or changed. Here’s a quick video link to episode 3 of the UFC 279 VLog.
The main event of the card will be the rising superstar in the sport Khamzat Chimaev, currently ranked 3rd in the welterweight division, vs Nate Diaz, season 5 Ultimate Fighter winner and UFC legend.
The fight has drawn a lot of speculation as to why it was made in the first place. Diaz had called out many fighters in the division to satisfy his contract with the UFC but those matches were not made. If Diaz wins the match, then Chimaev will have a long road ahead of him to make another run at the title and Diaz will have satisfied his contract with the UFC who could then lose a title contender.
If Chimaev wins, which seems likely considering the odds, then it does little to rise his rankings. Considering that he is fighting a seasoned veteran in the sport who may be on his way out. However, hard core fans will know that another real trial awaits Chimaev and a good performance here will likely increase his fan base.
The co-main event of the evening will be the Chinese phenom Li ‘Leech’ Jingliang #14 vs Tony Ferguson #11 in the welterweight division. The ‘Leech’ has won five of his last seven bouts with one of those losses coming from headliner Khamzat Chimaev. Ferguson looks to get his record back into the win column having lost his last four fights, although his opponents were the best in the division.
