UFC 274: Oliviera vs Gaethje: Results

It was a big night for UFC 274 and the results are in! The Footprint Center in Phoenix, AZ housed a great night of action. The night was headlined by Lightweight champion Charles Oliviera vs #1 contender Justin Gaethje. Oliviera missed weight, by just half a pound, and forfeited his title before he even got into the octagon. If Gaethje won, he would be the new UFC Lightweight champion. If Oliviera won, he would have to fight for the vacated title against the #1 contender at that time.

Donald Cerrone (36-16-0, 2NC) vs Joe Lauzon (28-16-0) – Cancelled

Word came down that Donald Cerrone was out due to a non-Covid related illness, which bumped Welterweight bout Randy Brown vs Khaos Williams over to the main card. That fight went the distance, but the competition was worthy to be on a main card and an incredible come back victory.

Michael Chandler #5 (22-7-0) vs Tony Ferguson #7 (26-7-0) Results

MIchael Chandler vs Tony Ferguson ended in an amazing 2nd round front kick KO victory that should secure performance of the night. Chandler went on to call out the division champ, but said he would settle for Connor McGreggor at 170lbs if the UFC declined his request.

Rose Namajunas #c (12-4-0) vs Carla Esparza #2 (19-6-0) – Results

Rose Namajunas vs Carla Esparza for the Women’s Strawweight title was a highly anticipated co-main event. Both of these women have been featured in our Top 10 UFC Female fighter post earlier this year. Carla Esparza looked to capture the title for a second time. Rose looked to continue division domination in preparation for the possibility of a Jessica Andrade rubber band match. The fight ended up being a 5 round light sparring match that left everyone scratching their heads. For the entire five rounds, the total strikes for both women combined was just 68, and 3 total takedowns.

Charles Oliveira #c (32-8-0) vs Justin Gaethje #1 (24-3-0) – Results

Main event Charles Oliveira vs Justin Gaethje was more than enough to make up for the prior match. Oliveira finished Gaethje before the end of the first round, but the back and forth in the short time was could have been either fighters night. A rear naked choke put the champ back in position to regain his belt after missing weight. After his match he called out the big ticket draw, Connor McGreggor.
