Jon Jones Defeated Vitor Belfort via R4 Submission at 00:00:54 into the round. The champion, Jon Jones, was put into a difficult position when Vitor applied an armbar that really seemed to put the champion into a bad position but Jones whethered the storm. Joseph Benavidez lost a hard-fought split decision to Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson, who is now the first UFC 125lb champion. All in all it really did seem as though Demetrious Johnson was the better fighter and really did a lot to prove that he was champion material. Mighty Mouse proved to have overwhelming speed and technical striking that far outmatched Benavidez. By the end of the fight Benavidez looked pretty well tagged up while Johnson looked like he was ready for some close-ups and a wild after party.
Michael Bisping found himself struggling against Brian Stann where he ended up winning a unanimous decision victory. If this puts Bisping into a top contender position it would definitely seem surprising. It appears Bisping has at least one more fight with a top ranked competitor before getting his first shot at a belt. Maybe a Chris Weiman fight should be in the cards for ‘The Count’.
Matt Hamill had a successful UFC return when he battled it out with Roger Hollett and earned a unanimous decision. The former Ultimate Fighter combatant showed a bit of ring rust but he a well matched opponent should have helped Hammil shake any cobwebs he may have had prior to entering the octagon.
Cub Swanson looked great against Charles Oliveira when he secured a first round knock out at 2:40 of the round. Swanson’s heavy hands proved to be the deciding factor when it appeared that Oliveira may have very well been winning the round.
Vinny Magalhaes defeated Igor Pokrajac by way of a second round Submission leaving Igor looking a bit sluggish.
TJ Grant defeated Evan Dunham by way of a unanimous decision in what looked to be a very close bout with nearly even strikes landed but 3 unanswered takedowns by Dunham did not appear to be enough to gain favor with the judges.
Sean Pierson won over Lance Benoist by unanimous Decision moving Pierson to a record of 13-6-0.
Marcus Brimage beat Jimy Hettes in a unanimous decision moving the new comer Marcus to an impressive 6-1-0.
Seth Baczynski defeated Simeon Thoresen with a thud when he ended Simeon’s night by way of a knockout at 00:04:10 of round 1.
Mitch Gagnon defeated Walel Watson with an impressive 1st round submission improving his record to 9-2-0.
Kyle Noke defeated Charlie Brenneman in stunning fashion when a 1st round KO was put on the books due to a left jab followed by a straight right that sent Brenneman into lala land. An obviously shaken Brenneman tried to plead his case to the referee but the fact that he looked like Bambi on ice probably didn’t help his case.
