No More UFC on Pay Per View?
With the UFC topping the charts for pay-per-view sporting events, why would the UFC be foreseeing the day when fights would no longer be on pay-per-view? In a recent interview, however, Dana White stated that could very well be a possible future. With a constantly changing landscape in the media and how people receive and view their favorite television shows, movies and sport events it would be a large mistake to not adapt with the media and continue to enjoy a profitable future. In an interview posted on MMAJunkie.com, Dana White had this to say, “Lorenzo and I talk about this all the time – I do believe there will be a day when this probably isn’t pay-per-view,” he stated “A lot of people believe everything is going to go to the Internet, like now when you buy your cable, and there’s basic cable and you add other stations, we’re probably going to get to a point where you can pick exactly what you want,” White said. “So it’s very interesting to see where all this goes over the next several years.”
It seems the UFC president would sooner take a proactive approach to possible dwindling numbers, or it could be that with the new deal placed at Fox, Dana White and the UFC have other motives in mind. Whatever the case we can rest assured knowing that the sport will continue to grow and that these excellent match ups will remain highly accessible.
