Greg Jackson to Corner Jon Jones

It appears, after much deliberation, that Greg Jackson will indeed be in the corner of the UFC light heavyweight champ, Jon Jones.  Jon Jones will meet Rashad Evans, a former member of the Jackson camp, at UFC 145.  Greg Jackson had quite the dilemma on his hands, having trained both fighters into UFC champions, as to whether he would be willing to corner either fighter if they were to meet in the octagon.  It was Rashad Evans, however, who decided to leave Jackson mma for Imperial Athletics in Boca Raton, Florida in early 2011.  This would have seemed to help make the decision easier for Greg Jackson but the legendary trainer was still on the fence about the topic.

Nearly a year has passed since Evans decided to leave the camp and it seems to be enough time for Greg Jackson to decide to corner his current student, Jon Jones.  It is unsure of whether the rivalry between Jones and Evans was the cause of Jackson’s indecision or not.  The bad blood began brewing between these two fighters after Jon Jones admitted that he would fight Evans should the UFC wish to see the matchup.  Evans became upset at the comment, believing that it is better for members of the same camp to not fight each other.  After that the feud was fueled even more when Jones became a substitute for an injured Evans at UFC 126, which gave the young fighter a much desired shot at the title against Mauricio Rua.  Jones went on to defeat Rua and became the youngest UFC champion in history.

These two fighters will meet each other at UFC 145 April 21, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia.
