The Bellator 289 results are in for Stots vs Sabatello. It was another highly entertaining night put on by Bellator. The event went live December 9, 2022 from Uncasville, CT. All fights aired live on Showtime.

In the main event, Raufeon Stots vs Danny Sabatello for the interim bantamweight championship, the fight went the distance in favor for the defending champion. The game plan was clear throughout the fight. Stots was looking to strike with his opponent while Sabatello was after ground control. It was Stots who appeared to have the better strategy however. Even when Sabatello got the fight to the ground, it appeared to be Stots who was the bigger threat from his back, attempting submissions and continuing to throw elbows. Two of the three judges saw it for the defending champion. Here’s Sabatello’s thoughts on the decision, courtesy of MMA Fighting on SBN.

This sets up a fight between Raufeon Stots vs Patchy Mix for the Grand Prix final and the chance to take home a million dollars. Mix had an excellent performance against his opponent Magomed Magomedov. Mix used his boxing to nullify Magomedov’s strikes until he was able to secure a round 2 guillotine choke that turned off the lights for Magomedov.

The co-main event was champion Liz Carmouche vs Julianna Velasquez in the women’s flyweight championship. This was their second meeting of the year. In the first fight Velasquez was winning before a controversial finish saw Carmouche win. In this fight Carmouche put the doubters to rest as she came out aggressive and dominated the fight with her grappling before ending the fight in the second round via armbar submission.
