The Best Pound for Pound fighter in the UFC: Poll

It used to be that the best pound for pound UFC fighter was between two men, George ‘Rush’ St-Pierre and Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva.  Recent stars have since shined too bright to be ignored and UFC fighters Jon ‘Bones’ Jones (16-1) and Jose Aldo (21-1) must be mentioned when considering a pound for pound champion.

With GSP and The Spider comming off of injuries it seems the UFC is still not suffering from a lack of talent.  Younger fighters keep stepping into the lime light and displaying an arsenal of mma skills.  It’s very interesting to see where the future for these fighters will lead.

Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva to Fight Cane Velasquez at UFC 146 and Poll

That’s correct fight fans, it appears Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva (16-3) will make his UFC debut against former heavyweight champion Cane Valasquez (9-1).
Cane Valasquez was originally slated to fight Frank Mir, at UFC 146, until the Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed that Alistair Overeem had tested positive for elevated testosterone levels.  This news made Overeem ineligible to fight in the event and the UFC decided to give Mir a title shot.
With Mir fighting Junior Dos Santos, for the belt, Cane needed a new opponent, that’s where ‘Bigfoot’ comes in.  Antonio Silva has many notable victories, including recent wins over Fedor Emelianenko,  and Mike Kyle in Strikeforce.  Silva was the first and last EliteXC Heavyweight Champion and the 2011 Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinalist.

UFC 145: Results and Post Fight Interview

Well the time has come and gone and hopefully you didn’t miss out on an exciting night of fights.  All the fighters tonight put on great performances in a highly anticipated mma event.

Main Event

Jones vs Evans went the distance but it was Jones who secured the win in a fairly one sided, 25 minute, stand up bout.   The champion out landed Evans in significant strikes by more than 2:1.  Evans made many attempts but was unable to take the fight to the ground, he went 0 for 4 on his takedown attempts for the night.  This makes the 3rd consecutive UFC title defense for Jones, now (16-1), and solidifies him as a top pound for pound fighter.
